Duraflex
Fabricator Uses the Grey Matter
Long-standing
Duraflex fabricator, Window
Vision based in Cumbernauld, has provided a tailor-made PVCu
solution for a cosmopolitan Miller Homes development in the heart of
Glasgow city centre. In order to meet local planning requirements, all
tilt & turn window and door profiles for Variety Gate's mix of 63
refurbished and new build apartments were supplied by Duraflex specially
foiled in a subtle shade of grey.
Window Vision was asked to re-quote for grey doors and window when the
architect's original specification for a white PVCu system was turned
down by Glasgow City Council's Planning Department. They insisted
on grey to harmonise with the local surroundings, explains Window
Vision's Sales Manager, Pat McCluskey. We looked at various alternatives
within the budget and spray painting just wasn't cost-effective in this
instance. So we went back to Duraflex and their technical team researched
other options and came up with the foil finish solution.
Given the volume of profile required for the project's 350 windows and
50 or so doors, Duraflex was only too happy to provide this service
from an extensive range of standard foils. Duraflex even supplied
a selection of samples in different shades of grey for the architect
to choose from, adds Pat.
Miller Homes specified PVCu for Variety Gate as a durable, low maintenance
solution with excellent sound and thermal insulation. Window Vision
fabricated all the doors and windows using Duraflex's 65mm Diamond Suite
system, which fully complies with U-values required under Part J of
Scottish Building Regulations.
Being a multi-storey building, tilt & turn style windows were chosen
to ensure easy access for cleaning and maintenance. A small pane of
sandblasted glass within each window provides a decorative as well as
a functional feature by concealing columns located throughout the building.
In addition to complementary residential doors from the Duraflex range,
Window Vision also fabricated French doors that open out onto private
balconies in luxury penthouses on the two new storeys added to the top
of the original building.
Window Vision Ltd has been a Duraflex fabricator for over 12 years.
Operating mainly in the central belt of Scotland, the company has an
experienced team with a reputation for high quality workmanship. Current
output stands at approximately 100 frames per week, with 80% of orders
from trade customers and commercial projects. Variety Gate was
a highly demanding contract, but with Duraflex's support we were able
to meet the challenge and deliver a high quality result on schedule,
concludes Pat.
