Euro Design and Maco take a Tilt at Student Accommodation

Euro Design Ltd of Thirsk has recently completed a major installation for student accommodation in Lincoln. Main contractors North Midland Construction produced a specification that demanded great attention to safety detail. Installing windows in educational accommodation for students had proved to be a problem with a previous site as students managed to lift sashes out in order to open the windows.

Maco Trend Tilt & Turn hardware was used in conjunction with a Eurocell Euro-logic profile in the fabrication of a total of 1500 windows; 300 windows in each of 6 blocks, in this £26.5 million development at The Pavilion, Lincoln.

In safety proofing the windows, the specification was for tilt only, with opening facilitated for cleaning and maintenance only. The Maco iS TBT Striker proved to be the optimum product in delivering the specification demanded. Two iS TBT Strikers were used on the bottom of the window creating extra security on the tilt position.

TREND TBT Features include an adjustable sash lifter fitted as standard to the drive gear, ensuring that the sash is always centralised when closed. Having an adjustment of + or - 3mm the window can be further adjusted after installation ensuring the smooth operation of the windows for many years to come. The ‘Multi-Trend’ sash lifter also doubles as a miss-handling device which prevents the window from engaging into both the Tilt and Turn positions at the same time.

‘Multi-Trend’ Fittings offer increased security to the bottom of the window with the introduction of the iS (Intelligent Security) corner element and tilt first mushroom striker plate. Security can be further enhanced by replacing the mid point standard strike with an iS security mushroom striker plate. The iS ‘Multi-Trend’ version has been successfully tested to BS 7950.
