MagHansen Gives Expression to Greenside Place

A prestigious new office development in the heart of Edinburgh has offered MagHansen an opportunity to showcase a full array of its capabilities in terms of delivering a package of curtain walling and other high performance glazing solutions.

Greenside Place is located at the east end of Princes Street in the heart of the city and has had to respect the constraints imposed by the area’s listing as a World Heritage Site. Also synonymous with the capital’s financial services industry, the corporate headquarters class property, designed by Allan Murray Architects, is to be occupied by Bailey Gifford.

The nine storey building displays the manufacturer’s structural silicone glazing system employed to create a striking entrance feature. Then for the rest of the main glazed elevations, MagHansen provided a twin skin solution offering excellent energy performance as well as a feeling of transparency and spaciousness.

Behind a curved version of its Thermestra™ system glazed with large sections of laminated glass, is a Fasad™ curtain wall. The company developed a special oval shaped cap as a feature to the horizontal joints while the vertical joints were sealed with silicone.

Amongst the different specification of IG produced for Greenside Place were 6-12-6 units containing either low-emissivity or Suncool Brilliant solar control glass for the inner leaf. MagHansen’s contract also included the production of external metal louvers and involved the supply of extensive supporting steelwork in fabricated hollow section mild steel profiles.

Throughout the 18 month contract MagHansen liaised closely with members of the project team and other package contractors; ensuring the smooth handover of sections to the building despite a complex and demanding construction programme.
