Pilkington Activ™ used In Bohnymatte Home

It has been shown that Pilkington Activ™, the self-cleaning dual action glass, is suitable for traditional buildings. Kaspar Giovanelli of the Kaspar Giovanelli AG architectural practice in Frutigen gave the following personal report on the building of the Bohnymatte family home in Frutigen:

‘During the preliminary construction phase I became aware, together with my customers, of Pilkington Activ™ glass through consulting technical journals. The property, with large areas of window (up to 6m high), was almost perfect for testing Pilkington Activ™ more thoroughly.

'We received a glass sample from Pilkington Glass in Thun, which we exposed to the weather for a few weeks, together with a 'normal' glass sample. The difference was so striking that we unanimously decided in favour of Pilkington Activ™. The window constructors, Bärtschi Bau AG in Frutigen, then fitted the window glass correctly.

'Now that the house has been lived in for a few weeks, we are convinced that Pilkington Activ™ will also become established in traditional house construction as soon as windows reach a certain size. In order that no visual difference occurs in traditional double glazing, we have fitted all windows with Pilkington Activ™. In my view the new Pilkington Activ™ glass can be recommended anywhere that cleaning from the outside presents a problem for whatever reason.’
