Wolseley's excellent results for the 11 months to June (profits up 15%) point to a similar pattern in the USA, where the housebuilding market is enjoying a bouyant moment. Wolseley also managed to out-perform the UK market, with commercial and government contracts doing particuarly well. Indeed, the latest DTI statistics (in this week's Construction column) show that construction orders for the year to May were up 6% on the previous year, and orders in the three months to May 2005 rose by 8% compared to the same three months a year earlier. |
