Cold Winds of Change

If the market isn't exactly
being blown off course by the cold winds of change, there are certainly some squalls in the air and an uneasy feeling of worse to come. Pilkington and NSG continue to talk, and while those talks appear cordial enough, little progress seems to have been made, so maybe the gloves will need to come off before long. We also learn this week that a well established custom extruder has gone bust, suggesting that there is no longer any room for the kind of company that traditionally hoovered up the excess capacity of the major systems companies.

Two third quarter financial reports this week show clearly that there are some highly profitable pockets in our market: notably window coverings and hardware. The National Federation of Builders, meanwhile, has established a special interest group for its beleaguered housebuilder members, called The Housebuilders Association.
