PART L ARCHIVE

This has massive implications for the future of the insulated glass market in the UK, and lends further credence to the decision by EMAP to launch a show in the UK dedicated to Glass. We have seen a lot of British people so far at Glasstec, all of whom are anxious to decide which way the wind is blowing and which kind of machinery to put deposits on in order to anticipate the future.

The consensus of opinion is that Part L is only the beginning and the industry will need to be able to offer lower u-values within a year or two, hence Saint-Gobain's decision to install a magnetron line in the UK. It is noticable how many other companies are gearing their products to this changing market: For.El, for example are launching a vertical line with Low-E capability which UK agent Promac expects to sell well in the UK

For.El is an excellent example of what is so good about this show - interesting new products and an eye-catching stand design - in this case, a full size gondola to remind visitors where For.El is based! We will report in more detail from the show - with pictures of course - in the coming few weeks.

In the meantime I hope to see you in Düsseldorf, but otherwise please e-mail me at tony@theglazine.com
