EN 1279

The up-to-date position as regards publication and enforcement of the forthcoming European Standard for insulating glass units (EN 1279) is as follows:

While many were happy with the quality of visitor, some exhibitors work on the numbers principle to make their exhibition worthwhile - mainly those who rely on high turnover of small items. The Machinery companies, on the other hand, were pleased to have more time with individual visitors. I have received a number of responses to last week's comment and these, together with the view of the organisers, exhibitors and visitors are brought together here.

It remains to be seen whether this is a trend in trade exhibitions in general, and whether it will be replicated across the rest of the industry shows for the coming year, as has been suggested. Next week we will preview the next offering from EMAP, the Glass Processing & Technology Show, which is now in the hands of the industry as to how succesful it is going to be.

This week we also have the sad duty of reporting the untimely death of David Carrick, one of the industry's true gentlemen, who many people will have seen at Glassex.
