Not a Great Week for The Brits
I hope you all had a good holiday weekend, despite the fairly nondescript weather. Although I suppose by British standards the weather was pretty good, possibly above average. Which is more than you can say about our performance in The Eurovision Song Contest, where our entry became only the second in the history of the competition to get absolutely Nul Points.

Having just taken my first good look at the annual Benedictus Awards, which are sponsored by Dupont as a way of encouraging the greater use of laminated glass, and which were announced on 11th May, I'm afraid British architects and engineers again drew a blank. This has encouraged me to introduce a 'Project of the Week' as a way of reminding ourselves of the undoubted excellence which exists within these islands.

Tony Higgin We also hear the news that British firms are likely to be favoured with contracts in the rebuilding of Iraq, although overall something like 10,000 contracts will be shared out worldwide with an average value of about £600,000 each. About 1,000 interested parties turned up to a meeting chaired by Bechtel in London last week and had to walk past about 30 protesters chanting 'Vultures'. I can't help thinking they would have been better off picketing the Eurovision.
