Construction
Construction output increased by 7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2003 from £19.6bn to £21bn, according to the latest data from the DTI.
The figure is the highest ever recorded in the first quarter

On 10th May, Mark Warren, took the plunge over the side of one of Hanley's tallest buildings (along with three of his staff) and abseiled down to the ground to help raise money for the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

Dark Clouds on the Horizon?
No, I'm not talking about the weather again, rather the gloomy forecasts by some economic pundits over the past few days. Those cheery folk at BDO Stoy Hayward for example, predict that more than 63,000 business in the UK will go bust between now and 2006. That's over 400 a week. Companies affected most will be those dependent upon consumer spending.

Health & Safety
Since April 1st this year, it has been a legal requirement that all emergency exit and panic hardware is CE Marked. Hardware distributor Wagner (GB) Ltd has confirmed that its Strand-Feb range of cross arm devices complies with this directive.

Results of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) designer initiative held during March 2003 in Scotland and the North of England revealed that many designers are unaware of their duties under Regulation 13 of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 1994 (CDM)

No. 03904468), which was put to the High Court in Manchester last Friday (6th June). Apparently another Winding up petition had been proposed by Veka and two other interested parties, including the bank. We shall report more on this when we have the full details.
