L.B.
WINDOW TRIMS APPEAL TO FABRICATORS
UK building systems company L.B. Plastics has launched two architrave
trims.
The new Ogee trims allow Sheerframe windowmakers to further differentiate
their products, providing added value. They are the latest additions to
the Hometrim range of multi-use profiles and are available in two widths
(60 mm and 45 mm). Manufactured solely for use with L.B. Plastics products,
the trims are distinct because although their main purpose is to internally
decorate plain windows by fitting on the edge of the window frame, they
are also suitable for other internal and external uses, e.g. transforming
a plain bargeboard.
Mo Ali, National Hometrim Sales Manager, comments, 'We have our own development
team, which is constantly working to improve design and performance specifications
and ensure all our products meet the highest standards. Our aim with the
new trims was to provide a visually attractive product, which would add
aesthetic appeal when fitted onto an internal window frame, and offer
even better profit opportunities for fabricators of the Hometrim package,
by increasing the value of window installations.'
Kitemarked to BS 7619, Hometrim products are formed from lightweight cellular
PVC-UE profiles produced by a special co-extrusion process. The complete
range includes fascias, soffits, bargeboards, cladding and windowboards,
as well as internal and external trims. The Hometrim system is attractive,
weather-proof, and increasingly being used for newbuild projects. Unlike
the timber equivalent, it requires no maintenance and will never discolour,
fade, rot or warp.
LB has also recently extended its range of BBA assured Molyneux weepholes
and weepvents for the newbuild sector.
The Molyneux product provides a solution to cavity wall structures, to
prevent moisture reaching the inner leaf of a cavity wall construction.
Weepholes should be used over external lintels, where cavity trays are
used, at ground floor slab level and to release pressure in ground-supporting
walls. The Molyneux range features a range of colour options and an extension
option for use in rendered and wider wall applications.

A unique aspect incorporated into Bystronic's SMFR design provides an
edge deletion device that is equipped with an automatic dust extraction
and grinding wheel dressing device.
For manufacturers there are many key benefits including the automatic
positioning of glass over air cushions by means of pneumatically activated
stops together with precise automatic adjustment of the cutting oil feed.
The
3-Axis-AC-direct-drive is completely maintenance free and is used in conjunction
with the profile guides to guarantee maximum cutting precision and accuracy
of the shape.
Cycle times are kept to a minimum and the automatic speed-dependent pressure
adjustments produces an optimal cut. This guarantees a fast and accurate
breakout of the cut shapes.

Ubbink
SunPipe - daylight at the end of the tunnel
Ubbink's
new energy efficient SunPipe is an innovative way to duct natural daylight
from the roof into the home or workplace, bringing natural light to gloomy
areas.
For areas like stairs, halls and bathrooms that need continual lighting
throughout the day, the SunPipe system provides the ideal solution with
no energy use. Daylight is essential for healthy living and can bring
significant productivity and safety benefits to the workplace.
SunPipe can deliver a remarkable level of daylight to an interior in any
weather. The amount of light varies depending on external conditions,
however, even in dull winter weather light generated is comparable to
a 100 watt electric light.
SunPipe System The system comprises a UV protected polycarbonate dome
(300mm as standard) with brushed nylon anti-condensation strip which is
fitted on the roof.
The dome connects to a circular mirror-finish aluminium duct, which intensifies
and reflects daylight. The duct extends through fully adjustable elbows,
passing through roofs and walls and accommodating angles easily. The tube
of air is sealed from top to bottom, preventing solar gain and heat loss
from the destination room. There is no limit to the number of 600mm extension
pipes or offsets that can be used.
The final component is a semi-recessed ceiling lens which diffuses the
intensified daylight into the room below. Where a night time light source
is required such as the top of a staircase, SunPipe can be supplied with
a 50 watt low voltage light fitting which will not affect natural light
output during daytime use.
SunPipe is suitable for pitched and flat roofs. Installation is simple
with few fixings required, normally single fixing at the top and base
of the system is sufficient.

Siegenia
Opens New Doors
Window and door hardware manufacturer, Siegenia-Frank (UK) Ltd, has launched
its new range of parallel tilt and slide door hardware into the UK patio
door market.
The PSK Portal 160 has been specifically developed to suit sculptured
or chamfered profiles and is equally suitable for timber, PVCu or aluminium
patio doors. Displayed on the Mila stand at Glassex this year, PSK 160
is a prime example of Siegenia's hardware design.
A modern, slimmer design gives the PSK 160 greater sash to frame clearance
of 122mm. This, in turn, creates a greater distance between the handle
and external sash face, allowing easier operation and improving the overall
ergonomics of the door. With a load bearing capacity of 160Kg, the hardware
is equally effective on chamfered or standard profiles.
The PSK 160 gearing is manufactured in Siegenia's new, environmentally
friendly TS-Look silver coating, launched at Glassex this year. Handles
and cover rails are available in a range of colours allowing specifiers
and fabricators to choose a style that best suits each installation.
A shootbolt option is available for installations requiring extra security.
Standard tilt and turn window components can also be used for the PSK160,
giving good performance with added stock rationalisation benefits.
