Everything's Coming up Roses for Wendland

In direct response to customer request, Wendland's all-new Styal conservatory roofing system is now available in a Rosewood foil finish. The development meets increasing market demand for Rosewood, which has become a standard option for many PVCu systems companies, and an increasingly popular choice with homeowners for both replacement windows and conservatories.

This latest woodgrain effect finish joins the other options of White, Cream, Mahogany and Golden Oak in Wendland's expanding range of roof colours. Wendland developed the first foiled roof to gain BBA approval, and the new Rosewood foil is also covered by the company's BBA accreditation in terms of durability and weather resistance.

'As the conservatory market matures, homeowners are looking for more choice not only in terms of style but also colour. In adding a Rosewood finish to our range we're addressing market demand while providing fabricators and installers with an attractive value added option,' comments Damian Battle, Director of Marketing at Wendland Roof Solutions.

Thermoseal offers Automatic, Vertical Low-E Edge Deletion

The Thermoseal Group, manufacturer and supplier of machinery and consumables for the insulating glass market, has introduced an Automatic Vertical Edge Deletion / Grinding Machine. This machine is from Italian insulating glass machinery specialist Simec who has geared up extra production in anticipation of greater demand from the UK.

The machine serves to remove the low emissivity layer from the edges of the glass, which has become necessary since the introduction of Part L. With future legislation almost certain to bring the U-Value down further, and make the use of soft coated products a necessity, automatic, vertical machines of this type will become an essential addition to the factory floor.

According to Thermoseal Group sales and marketing director Mark Hickox. ‘The requirement for soft coat products is round the corner and the more these are handled, the more likely the coating will get damaged. The new machine cuts out manual handling completely, which retains the integrity of the coating 100%. Being a vertical line, it also feeds straight into our washing and sealing lines without the need for a tilt table or transfer station’.

The machine is of high grade steel construction and is treated with bi-component epoxy paint. It consists of three sections:The edge grinder inlet conveyor is provided with an air cushion for conveyance of the glass with motor-driven horizontal motion by a high resistance toothed belt coated in polyurethane.

The central edge grinding unit, which has a single head that can rotate up to 90 degrees to grind the 4 sides with a diamond abrasive system. The abrasive head, with dust free operation, runs vertically on aluminium guides. All movements are controlled by PLC.

The edge grinder outlet conveyor has an air cushion for conveyance of the glass, which is moved along by a high resistance toothed belt coated in polyurethane.
The machine offers a high processing speed, precision and uniformity of grinding and ease of use through a high degree of automation.

The brochure on this machine is now available or alternatively, interested parties can view the machine first-hand in Italy.

Bohle Launches New Decorative Glass System

Bohle UK has recently launched the new Vetro Decorative System featuring a selection of hand-made fused glass pieces designed to enhance the look of any ornamental glass item, whether for domestic or commercial use.

Bohle's Vetro Decorative System consists of over 80 basic items, including squares, circles, ovals and oblongs in a variety of colours and patterns. These can be used individually or collectively to create different designs for incorporating into door panels, conservatory top lights, internal screens and retail environments, such as pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Available exclusively through sole distributor Bohle in the UK and Eire, the glass pieces can be bonded to glass with three types of special adhesive also supplied by Bohle. Two types use UV Light to cure the adhesives within seconds, whilst the other is a two-component epoxy resin to bond the products to mirrors, for example. The adhesives have special viscosity and elasticity characteristics which are necessary when bonding these types of products to flat glass. The three different application methods have been specifically designed by Bohle to suit individual customer requirements and preferences.

According to Gary Dean, Managing Director at Bohle UK, the new Vetro Decorative System will satisfy a growing demand for more exciting options within the glass decoration market: 'Many companies, and in particular their customers, are becoming bored with bland bevels and lack lustre lead and colour film designs. Now with Vetro true hand-decorated glass meets glass in a fusion of creative possibilities for the first time.'

Bohle UK is expecting demand for the new System to be high and plans to roll out products in the range on a selected and phased basis, 'Offering virtually limitless opportunities, we believe Vetro could well be the future of glass decoration,' concludes Gary.

Ultraframe's Uzone Redefines the Shape of Roofs to Come

Ultraframe, the designer and manufacturer of conservatory systems, has launched Uzone, a system that offers quality, affordability and technical performance at a price of only £850 for a 3m x 3m Victorian roof. The Uzone roof enables users of Ultraframe's systems to attack all market sectors, but especially the value end of the market.

'Uzone delivers fewer and hugely simplified parts, good configurability, speedy assembly and installation with 'Clicklock' boltless technology; through to enhanced thermal performance and simple clean lines.' says the company.
Its slimline profiles maximise light available through the glazed area, while the inversion of traditional proportions on glazing bars drastically reduces the exterior 'bulk' of the structure.

Ventilation is built-in in keeping with Ultraframe's position of including it as standard. In Uzone, this is delivered by a natural 'stack' effect, whereby differential air pressures are harnessed to remove air through the finial on the 'chimney principle'.

Development of 'Clicklock' boltless connection technology attaches the glazing bars to the eaves beam and ridge body; obviating the need for nuts and bolts.
The roof is also 15% more thermally efficient than existing Victorian systems as all aluminium parts are sleeved in PVC, virtually eliminating exposed surfaces and thereby reducing the possibility of condensation.

Uzone is the most pre-fabricated roof ever made. All the parts are cut, drilled and marked, and there is also reduced reliance on silicone and fewer fixings and bolts. Furthermore, all cappings and claddings are cut to length and mated to their relevant aluminium parts. Those PVC parts which are attached assist in the location and attachment of other elements, a good example being V notches cut into the eaves fascia which indicate the location of glazing bars. Similarly, on the eaves beam, a notch is provided while a 'pip' on the 'Clicklock' mates with it to give perfect first time installation.

The Uzone's ridge incorporates, at the wall end, a saddle flashing trim on top of the hanger plate that holds up the aluminium ridge body. This enables easier installation of ConservaflashTM and also makes weatherproofing this whole area simpler. The patented adjustable hanger allows the aluminium ridge extrusion to slide over it to give 20mm of adjustment ie -/+ 10mm, allowing for out-of-true house walls and final adjustment prior to fastening the eaves beam.

Other developments found on the Uzone include a starter bar top cap featuring an integral soaker piece that 'deletes' a separate extrusion previously employed on the roofs and a specially integrated fan attachment block.

New Sheerframe Composite Door Storms Ahead on Weather Performance

LB Plastics Ltd has launched an all-new Sheerframe composite door framing system which delivers thermal efficiency and weather tightness. Tests on the new system show an 800 Pascals air rating.

The new system, designed for non-rebated 44mm door blades, is based on a 5 chamber outerframe profile but also includes a 5 chamber matching transom/mullion which is designed to allow the fitting of the blade to one side and a conventional Sheerframe glazing arrangement to the other.

Both outerframe and mullion profiles feature Sheerframe co-extruded weatherseals and gaskets to give optimum weather performance as well as reducing time in fabrication. Non-co-ex versions are also available for those preferring traditional gasketing. Designed to accommodate welded bottom rails, mullions and outerframes can also be mechanically fixed to any of the proprietary wheelchair thresholds. A new set of reinforcings for these two profiles allows for both mechanical and welded joints.

The new Sheerframe composite door system also features a new glazing system which is designed to glaze in 44mm panels to the fixed light area.

For LB Plastics the new Sheerframe profiles represent a step change in door system design. Says David Strang, 'We created the first ever bespoke system for 44mm blades over 15 years ago and since then have been the largest supplier by far of PVC frames to the composite door industry. The combination of unique mullion, co-ex profile and such an exceptional weather and thermal performance gives customers of this product a significant market advantage.'

Try Before You Buy with Windowlink

Windowlink has just launched a free limited life fully functional CD for its pricing modules for Vector Plus conservatory and Focus Plus window and door sales presentation software. This latest initiative gives companies the opportunity to use and evaluate a full working version of the company's advanced pricing programs, before committing to buy.

Launched last year, Windowlink's pricing module has proved a success with both new and existing customers, enabling production of professional quotations complete with a total price at the click of a button. lncorporating a comprehensive checklist relating to all aspects of an order, the software ensures that nothing is forgotten and costly mistakes are avoided. It also acts as a safeguard for both retailer and end user should any discrepancies arise on what was agreed when the order was placed.

The limited life pricing CD features the software's standard configuration, which is designed to meet the needs of most retail installers. On expiry of the free trial period, users can either choose to purchase this version as is, or upgrade to the next level which is then tailored to their own business requirements. If necessary, further levels of sophistication can be incorporated at an agreed cost for programming the additional features.

Windowlink's new pricing CD follows on from the success of the free trial incentives for the company's Vector and Focus sales presentation software for conservatories, windows and doors, and Windowezee manufacturing program.
'We've had a very positive response to these offers, as they give potential users the chance to assess exactly what the software can do and be completely satisfied before they invest.' comments Windowlink.s Managing Director. Giles Hayhurst.

'Furthermore computerised pricing is changing the way windows, doors and particularly conservatories are sold. It puts the salesman well ahead of the competition making those with a pile of brochures and calculator look rather outdated. Now retailers can take advantage of this technology in their own time by ensuring our software exactly meets their needs before they make the decision to buy, ' he adds.

For further information or to obtain a copy of any of Windowlink's free limited life CD offers, call freephone 0800 028 2160.

Home Safe Home

Synseal's new door lock has two opposing hooks that assure the homeowner of additional security by eliminating the likelihood of the door sash being jacked away from the frame. The lock also incorporates a one piece keep system housing location for both hooks, two (outbound) rollers, the deep 25mm deadbolt, and a unique anti drop facility that lifts the door sash into position even if the sash drops up to 11mm.

Security is an increasing concern for the homeowner. 'We take a level of responsibility in making the products we supply safe and secure,' comments Nick Dutton, Sales and Marketing Director of Synseal Extrusions Ltd. 'Towards this aim we are launching two new locks both with a 10 year manufacturer mechanical warranty.'

The window shootbolt also comes with benefits for the fabricator. It has one-piece corner shootbolt keeps, so the fabricator only has the cost of one keep as opposed to two. It also cuts down on stockholding and confusion with only two rod sizes. The small gearbox case width resulting in less routering allows increased productivity. A further feature of the lock is that it has a brass follower and reverse gears within the gearbox, which means it won't rust.
